This is where the player’s journey begins.

"Unbeknownst to the player, the mentor has actually been replaced by a robot. The player meets Robot Bob for the first time at his dojo."
"Unbeknownst to the player, the mentor has actually been replaced by a robot. The player meets Robot Bob for the first time at his dojo."

You wake up as a Shinobi trainee at the Dojo, under the strict (and slightly unhinged) tutelage of Robot Bob. Your training is… unconventional. Jumping over death traps? Dodging malfunctioning buzzsaws? It’s chaotic, but Robot Bob seems oddly lovable in his eccentric way. Things take a turn when a sudden lightning storm knocks out the power. As darkness falls, you see two shadowy figures—monsters—emerge from the portal. They grab Robot Bob and vanish back through the gate, leaving you stunned and unconscious.

When you wake up, an old woman is poking you with a stick. Her name is Fran.

“Another one of those damn kids from the Dojo,” she mutters. “This one’s on fire!” She puts you out with a bucket of water and drags you to her house, where her husband, Warner, greets you. They bicker endlessly, but their home has a warmth and charm that your training with Robot Bob never gave you. Warner, as it turns out, was an old friend of Bob’s—though they hadn’t spoken in years. “Ever since Bob started acting strange,” Warner says.

It’s here you learn that something is very wrong. When the monsters pulled Robot Bob through the gate, the energy surge damaged the valley’s other portals. They’re unstable now, and if they stay open too long, the monsters will escape.

Fran, Warner, and their chicken (a surprisingly feisty companion) offer to help you. They give you your first health potion, a map of the valley, and some advice: reset the portals before it’s too late.
